Anniversary Weekend in Miraflor

So we spent our 11th anniversary in the Nature Reserve Miraflor. We'd originally signed up for the treehouse, but when we arrived at dusk and went to inspect it, there was mouse poop everywhere, and the bed was a single--really a thin piece of bowed foam on a plank. We opted for the only remaining cabin available, a concrete jail cell decorated solely with a photo of Che Guevera.

In spite of the wind, and the chilly evenings, we had a lovely weekend exploring the highlands of Nicaragua. We went on a couple tours of the surrounding organic cooperative farms, the local school (where there were 40 horses lined up outside, waiting for their students to return), a coffee laboratory, the surrounding tropical jungle, and a 150 foot strangler fig tree--hollow on the inside--which Fritz climbed along with another tourist girl.
